You don’t have to struggle alone.
Years of clinical practice and research have helped me understand how aloneness fuels trauma. The experience of feeling safe and accompanied in the face of confusing or challenging emotions has the power to activate our intrinsic resources and bring about tremendous growth.
Talking can only get us so far. Our bodies store unconscious and preconscious stories, feelings, and experiences that don't always make sense, or that we are unable to express through words. Somatic psychotherapy is an experiential approach that emphasizes paying close attention to what is happening internally.
I am here with you.
ABOUT ME
MY APPROACH
Your body is a resource that is always with you. We listen to our bodies every day! But we need to expand the conversations we have. Just like your stomach tells your brain when it's time to eat, your nerves may be telling your body something is wrong. When our nervous systems are better regulated, our mind-body connection supports us to be present and engage in a way that feels healthy. Somatic counseling helps us do just that by paying close attention to what’s happening internally so we know ourselves better and can better respond to our environment. You may be familiar with mindfulness. Somatic counseling, backed by neuroscience, also helps us focus on living in the present moment and helps us track what’s happening and when. This experiential approach also involves movement, play, and dance. It’s relational and helps us develop trust in relationships with others and build our emotional intelligence at the same time. I am committed to honoring your unique and individual struggles and stories, including your particular identity and the complexity of how you got to where you are. I don't believe that therapy necessarily has to be a lifelong process. We can choose to work on a specific part of a story right now and decide to work through a single layer of experience, then take a break from therapy to get a lived experience of that new awareness for a time before deciding to come back when you’re ready.

EXPERIENCE
A fundamental aspect of somatic counseling is the relationship between the client and therapist. I believe that change happens when we can feel our deepest emotions while accompanied by a supportive and engaged other. In the course of my 25-year counseling career with individuals, families and groups in hospitals, clinics, educational and private practice environments, I have developed a strong commitment to a relational approach that encourages genuine interaction with challenging and supportive dynamics. I am passionate about helping clients develop increased self awareness and skills that will benefit their lives in harmony with their goals and values. I am responsible to both clients and the profession to continue my growth and development as a somatic counselor, supervisor, and consultant. I honor that responsibility through mindfulness and inclusive practices, focusing on both personal and professional relationships, and staying current with affective neurosciences and attachment-based approaches, especially relative to diversity equity and inclusivity competencies.
